Abstract
The authors eye tracking patterns, power spectral density curves and Ln S/N ratios of 14 normal controls and 12 schizophrenic patients in rapid and slow pursuit modes to evaluate the eye tracking abnormality in schizophrenic inpatients. The
results
were
as follows.
1. The Ln S/N ration of schizophrenics rapid pursuit mode showed lower trend than that of normal controls(p=0.068), while the Ln S/N ration of schizophrenics in slow pursuit mode was significantly lower than that of normal controls(p=0.045).
2. In schizophrenic patients, the Ln S/N ration in rapid pursuit mode showed significant negative correlation with the negative symptom subscore in PANSS (p=0.037) and the Ln S/N ratio in slow pursuit mode showed significant negative correlation
with
the positive and negative symptom subscores in PANSS (p=0.034, 0.042)
3. In schizophrenic patients, the Ln S/N ratios in rapid and slow pursuit modes showed no significant correlation with antipsychotic drug dose.
In conclusion, we suggest by the result of our study that eye tracking abnormality of the schizophrenics can be assessed globally and quantitatively by the Ln S/N ratio, that it is correlated significantly with the positive and negative symptoms
and
that is not correlated with the antipsy chotic drug dosage.
